Eton Boat Club Suspends Rowing Season Pending Wi-Fi Router Relocation Review

WINDSOR — The Eton College Boat Club has suspended competitive rowing for the second consecutive week after the wireless router mounted at the boathouse was found to be "aimed inconveniently," according to a statement from Captain of Boats Hugo Fennimore-Wraxall.

"One simply cannot maintain stroke rate discipline while the signal drops every time the coxswain checks split times," Fennimore-Wraxall told reporters, standing beside an unused eight-oar shell that has not touched the Thames since the router dispute began. "We have written to Estates Management. Twice."

Estates Management responded with a memo stating the router's position was "load-bearing for the boathouse's broader connectivity needs" and that relocating it would require a feasibility study, an environmental impact assessment, and sign-off from at least two committees not presently in existence.

Junior rowers, who make up the bulk of the affected squad, have reportedly begun training on ergometers indoors instead, a shift Fennimore-Wraxall called "a humiliation the club has not endured since the Great Blazer Shortage of 2019."

The Boat Club's formal complaint has been forwarded to the same office currently reviewing the Sixth Form's tuck shop grievances, raising internal concerns about a growing backlog.
